Originally from the Fiji Islands Reverend David Chaudhary moved to England in 1960 with his wife Sushila and daughter Sharon – he often said humorously that he came for the weather. Their new life began in Southampton where three other children were born, and in 1975 the family moved to Newton Aycliffe and became members of what is now Xcel Church.
David became a Christian minister in 1972 and spent the next 40 years sharing what he referred to as ‘The Good News of Jesus Christ’ throughout the United Kingdom and around the world. His simple philosophy was to let the message make a difference – which it did – impacting and transforming tens of thousands of lives around the world.
His message was not only spoken, with the help and support of his wife Sushila it was put into practice with years of charitable work mainly in India where their ancestors came from. It started by helping Christian organizations working amongst poor and orphaned children and grew to where they were able to help others build children’s homes eventually building children’s homes of their own. As a result hundreds of children have had their lives transformed and have gone from poverty and child labour to a school education and a number have been supported through a college education.
The large funeral celebration was testimony to David’s legacy as people attended from other counties and from all parts of the United Kingdom.
The family are grateful for all the support they have received and would especially like to thank Pastors John and Lisa Greenow and their congregation at Xcel Church for offering their building for the funeral celebration and the many years of support in David’s charitable work; Dr Winny Jose, Macmillan Cancer Care, the District Nurses, Unique Homecare and Alistair and his team at the Village Pharmacy for caring for David over recent months.
