ACORN have been busy preparing for the coming winter by acquiring a salt spreading machine and weatherproof clothing for volunteers who give up their time to treat pathways for the benefit of local residents and people accessing the area.
“Due to cost implications DCC Highways Department cannot grit everywhere and it is great that we have volunteers in the community willing to get involved for the benefit of others” said Ken Robson (chairman) of the Residents Association. ACORN acquired the featured salt spreader free but they are commercially available at around £160.
ACORN member Paul Thompson commented that the machine would be a huge improvement on carrying buckets of salt around and means that it would take less time and effort to clear the local paths.
County Councillors repre-senting the area have been asked to look into the provision of more salt boxes as part of a general winter preparation in the area to allow residents to grit dangerous paths contributing to the safety of pedestrians
