Dear Sir
Last week’s Newton News carried the unpleasant picture of an overflowing dog bin, with a caption praising the dog owners, but accusing the County Council of being irresponsible.
I contacted the County Council Streetscene as soon as I saw the article. By then, the bin had already been emptied, at the correct time. The problem had been that someone had placed a large bag in the opening of the dog bin which stopped people from using it.
I would encourage anybody who comes across such a situation to phone the County Council on 03000 26 1000, and also their county councillor, to report the matter. On this occasion, as I understand it, no complaint other than my own has been recorded. Problems can only be addressed if they are reported.
Also, on such occasions, is everybody aware that it is perfectly acceptable to place dog bags in any ordinary litter bin, as an alternative?
