Students and staff have taken part in a poignant Remembrance service at King James I Academy with the poppy wreath laid at the foot of the school’s monument by Mr David Henderson.
Mr Henderson, who served with the Royal Armoured Core 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards from 1971-1986, was joined by Headteacher, Simon Whitehead, the school’s Chair of Governors, Elizabeth Varley, and nine cadets from the student body, who proudly stood in uniform.
Across the academy, while the service took place outside, students in classrooms were also able to get involved. They watched a video which was created by the school especially for the event; this combined carefully chosen music and a reading of Laurence Binyon’s poem, ‘For the Fallen’ with photographs of soldiers from both world wars. The film also included a recording of The Last Post and The Reveille to give students a complete audio visual experience.
