Dear Sir,
Ref; last weeks article: ‘Cashing In?’  I would like to extend my appreciation to Mr & Mrs Bowman, the proprietors of the Catering Unit which was sited in the Youth Centre Car Park the day of the Olympic Torch Relay.
My family and I stood out for ages to get a good view of the procession and found the drinks and food they served to be invaluable.  The hot drinks helped fight off the cold and the hot dogs, as well as being delicious, were excellent value for money.
In my opinion, it was community service at its best. The whole Olympic Torch experience brought back childhood memories of Newton Aycliffe’s yearly Carnival Parade with Floats, Jazzbands and great community spirit. Could anyone shed any light as to why it stopped as I think the residents of Aycliffe, with it’s varied clubs and organisations, could contribute to a fantastic Carnival Day, maybe to coincide with Great Aycliffe Show?
