A SPECIAL adults only event as part of Sunderland Food and Drink Festival will create a sense of nostalgia for lovers of the country’s favourite tipple.
Gingo sessions – the opportunity to try five different G and T combinations while playing a game of bingo – are being held at The Looking Glass, Athenaeum Street on June 21 and 22. And those who take part will be able to try out the spiced Peaky Blinder Gin, created as a tribute to the popular BBC tv series, along with a Parma Violet Gin inspired by the favourite old time sweet. Also on offer is a sarsaparilla gin – reminiscent of the much-loved soft drink – created by Sunderland’s own distillery, Poetic License, based at the Roker Hotel.
“At Gingo, we bring in distillery owners to talk about their passion, how they started their business, the botanicals they use and how people should drink their gin,” said ginstructor, Toyah Charlton. “They’re fun, informative and give people top tips and ideas on how to make the best gin combinations – from tonics to garnishes – while having the gang over at the weekend for a tipple or two.”
The hour-long sessions will give participants the chance to learn more about the nation’s favourite spirit, while wielding their dabbers for a game of bingo to win a range of prizes.
The Sunderland Food and Drink Festival has also lined up a hat trick of famous faces from the culinary world with Jean-Christophe Novelli, former Masterchef finalist and tv favourite Dean Edwards and Cbeebies presenter, Katy Ashworth all set to take part.
The packed weekend of activities includes craft and food markets, street entertainment along with demonstrations by local chefs. The hour-long sessions will take place on Friday 21 June at 6pm and 8pm and on Saturday 22 at 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm.
Tickets, which cost £12 and include gin and tonic combinations, a game of bingo and the chance to win some top prizes, can be booked at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/316113.
