Former employees of Presswork ( Metals) Ltd. are holding a reunion at Redworth Hall Hotel on Friday 19th September 2014 at 7.30pm. The company which was based on Durham Way South, Newton Aycliffe, enjoyed a worldwide reputation as a leading supplier of Safety Critical components to the Automotive industry.
In addition a main supplier to other industries such as, D.I.Y, Garden products, Building, Computing, Vehicle & Aircraft Cargo Restraints plus many others with smaller demands including electrical and shelving. From individual components, fully assembled products, Welded assemblies and moulding, over half the products manufactured at Aycliffe were exported across the World.
None of this would have been possible without the excellent support of a dedicated and highly skilled workforce. Employing around 300, of which 10% were apprentices. Presswork was an ardent believer in training and had its own Centre, with an indentured 5 year apprenticeship for various skills including further education to HND Level, and some sponsored through University.
We hope many of the employees who saw the highs and low of manufacturing in the UK and changes in this industry will join together in September to celebrate the dedication and determination of the North East to get the job done.
