The newly formed league sponsored by Gordon Fletcher & Sons Funeral Directors of  Spennymoor will see some of the region’s top indoor bowlers represent their clubs as they compete for the top prize of  £125.
Seven clubs have agreed to take part, Durham, Darlington, Aycliffe, Ferryhill, Stanley,  Houghton and Gateshead.
Seven  weeks of fixtures will be spread out over the next seven months with each club hosting one of the week’s fixtures. The top four clubs at the end of the season will feature in a straight knock out to decide the eventual winners.
The league is for senior men aged 60+ and each team will consist of one rink of three players, games will be played over eighteen ends.
Because the rules allow for team members to be changed as often as the club wishes it is anticipated that the clubs involved will  field many of their top bowlers thus providing a feast of top quality bowling.
With this in mind it is hoped that the league will help to raise the profile of the game and go some way to increase involvement in the sport at a time when many clubs are experiencing falling membership.

The season starts at Durham on Thursday 24th September at 12.30pm. Aycliffe will host the event on Tuesday 1st December 12.30pm.
