Dear Sir,
I wish to reply to the letter from Alastair Welsh and his comments about Councillor John Clare over the problems on bin collections recently.
Cllr. Clare tried to explain what has happened in candid, clear and concise detail and as far as I could see there was no cover up on his part.
He said: I have to admit I failed to notice the type of bin had changed”. I appreciate the whole episode obviously caused problems and inconvenience to many people, but to give John Clare his due, as written in Newton News, he tried very hard to rectify the problem with the County Council.
I think he was quite successful and I would add that in his everyday work he is an honourable man who genuinely does his best for the community.
Large organisations do make slip-ups which I have experienced often during my lifetime and its part of human nature and we are not perfect!
Mr Welsh comments on additional bin collections having to be made, and this appears to a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t!
His comments on soldiers in the first World War being lions led by donkeys and saying the collection operatives are the lions implies the Council are the donkeys.
Many a brave officer on orders from above led their men over the top in the war and sadly died. I think it is highly insulting to them and I have met some highly dedicated Councillors.
I would like to commend the Bin Men for their good and helpful service over the years.
