New mums in County Durham and Darlington have told a national survey they feel they’re getting the best care. Results of the annual survey of maternity services reveal that those women surveyed who used maternity services delivered by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, gave their experience a higher rating than most other trusts achieved in six of the categories surveyed.
The Care Quality Commission’s 2019 survey highlights women’s views on all aspects of their maternity care from the first time they saw a clinician or midwife, during labour and birth, through to the care provided at home in the weeks following the arrival of their baby.
Each month 300-400 babies are born under the care of the Trust. Areas surveyed where it scored particularly well, included the number of women expressing confidence and trust in the staff caring for them during labour and birth, the information and explanations they received in hospital after their baby was born and that their decisions about how they wanted to feed their baby were respected by midwives.
The Trust didn’t score below national average in any categories surveyed.
