Town Mayor Jed Hillary and Olympic swimmer Chris Cook officially opened the new West Park play area this week during a fun ceremony which was to encourage the young people of the town to use the new equipment correctly.
Steve Cooper Environment Officer told Newton News:“Many elements of the play equipment are designed to improve fitness while having fun. We therefore thought as a local sports personality, Chris was ideal to come along to engage the children and inspire a little competitive spirit. The play equipment providers, Proludic were on hand to explain a little about each part of the equipment and also came along to provide a few promotional goodies as prizes”.
“The improvements are part of Great Aycliffe Town Council’s continued commitment to provide top quality play facilities and equipment within the town. It is great to see how popular the equipment has been since it has been completed, attracting people from across the town.”
