The opening recital of Darlington Piano Society’s 2024-25 season, in Central Hall, the Dolphin Centre, at 3pm on Sunday 20th October, is the first of six bringing a series of international pianists, all of whom are first time performers for the Society. The season is planned someway ahead and by pure chance, it includes a Leeds International Piano Competition finalist from this September, a jury member from the competition, and the first female winner in 2009.
However, the season opens with a debut by a London based young Romanian pianist, Cristian Sandrin. In 2024-25 he will be playing at St John’s Smith Square and in Milan, and making his debut at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Germany.
The programme is book-ended with a work published in 1696 (Purcell’s Suite no.7) and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, arranged by Mikhail Pletnev and published in 1978, with two sonatas by Mozart and Schumann’s Kreisleriana in between.
Details of the full programme are available at www.dpiano.co.uk – where season tickets and individual tickets can be purchased. Tickets are also available at the door on the day, price £18, with under 21’s free. The recital series takes place in Central Hall, the Dolphin Centre, at 3pm on Sundays with Cristian’s recital opening the season on 20th October.
