The Pioneering Care Centre in has recently joined the County Durham Breastfeeding Friendly Scheme showing that they are committed to supporting families to breastfeed.
They have signed a pledge to:
• Hold a staff awareness session to understand and support the Breastfeeding friendly scheme
• Respond sensitively if inappropriate comments are made about breastfeeding in their venue
• Provide a clean, comfortable and where possible private environment to breastfeed in – this will not be the toilets
• Offer breastfeeding mums a glass of water without charge
• Where possible staff members will offer to take food and drink orders over to breastfeeding mums so they don’t have to interrupt their baby’s feed, if feeding in the Mall Coffee Shop
• Display the breastfeeding friendly window sticker so families can recognise the Centre as being part of the scheme
Carol Gaskarth, PCP Chief Executive said “Many new mums visit the Pioneering Care Centre to meet with friends or to use hydrotherapy pool. The Centre also houses various NHS Clinics a GP surgery and pharmacy. Breastfeeding provides lifelong health benefits for both mother and child. By helping to make it easier for women to breastfeed, we will be making a positive contribution to the health of people in our community.”
