A Charity golf day was on Friday 22nd September at Woodham Golf Club in aid of The Darlington Charity Cup, a charity all about raising funds for sick children in our area. Teams consisted of three players per team plus a celebrity, mostly ex professional footballers including Alan Shoulder, Peter Cartwright, Steve Howey, Billy Rafferty all ex Newcastle United, Kevin Ball, Simon Ramsden, Martin Scott, Martin Smith ex Sunderland; Kevin Stonehouse, Paul Ward, Paul Terry ex Darlington; Peter Hampton, Colin Smith, ex Leeds United; Neil Maddison, Dean Gordon, Ross Turnbull all ex Middlesbrough; Lawrie Pearson ex Manchester United and Darlington. Also Les Langley TV Presenter and actor, who all give up their time for our Charity.
It started at 9.00am with tee offs at 10.00pm. The golf tournament was followed with a Buffet, Presentation and Auction with a talk by one of the celebrities.
There was an evening meal, entertainment and Raffle. Events are held throughout the year to raise funds for this cause, which has been going for over 100 years. £4,500 was raised and the organisers thank all involved: Players, Sponsors, Organisers, and Woodham Golf Club.
