Councillors will be updated on key initiatives being carried out by partners across County Durham when they meet next week.
Durham County Council’s Cabinet will hear about successful work the local authority is undertaking in partnership with public and private sector organisations – from the Powered by People movement, to the creation of a new vision for the county.
Led by the County Durham Partnership (CDP), the Durham Vision 2035 is being developed to identify key ambitions for the area for the next 16 years. This includes looking for opportunities to forge new relationships with people, the voluntary and community sector and local businesses. The draft vision will be subject to a third phase of consultation over the summer, with the CDP due to sign off the final document in September.
Cabinet will also hear about the continued success of Durham’s 14 Area Action Partnerships (AAP), which celebrated their tenth anniversary this year. Over the last decade, residents, councillors, partners and community representatives have worked together as part of the AAPs to develop and deliver thousands of projects. More than 300 people attended a tenth anniversary event in April to recognise each AAP’s achievements.
Updates will also be given on Powered by People, a movement that supports inward investment, jobs and growth by celebrating those who live, work and study in County Durham, and #Durham19. The latter is a campaign led by Visit County Durham, the council and other partners to promote the unprecedented number of cultural and sporting events taking place this year.
Cllr Simon Henig, Leader of Durham County Council, said: “This year, is an important year for County Durham for so many reasons. Not only are we marking ten years since becoming a unitary authority, but we are celebrating the success of our AAPs which has resulted in closer community links than ever before.
“It is the year we launched our Powered by People campaign, promoting the great talent that exists here in County Durham, and the year when an unprecedented number of cultural events will showcase our county on an international scale.
“Partnership work is at the heart of all of this and, as we develop a new vision for County Durham, we will continue to look for new ways to work together to ensure our communities and businesses thrive.”
Cabinet will be asked to note the contents of the update when it meets at County Hall in Durham on Wednesday, 12 June, at 10am.
