The idea came from David Judge from Newton Aycliffe who left his home town to follow a passion working with both young people and communities.
As well as achieving a Youth and Community Work degree from De Montfort University in 2011, he has worked with many different organisations across the midlands as an advocate for change and stability for today’s youth.
David was also part of a group that saw an area within local communities he was working in who were not being catered for. As a result David and four other people in 2012 set up a company in Leicester – Global Hands
This is a Community Interest Company set up as a social enterprise to do something about global inequality and the need to raise consciousness about issues that affect communities across the world.
They are also interested in supporting people build their capacities and concentrate on four specific areas where they can deliver an exceptional service by creating a platform to give any person, no matter who they are or where they come from, a voice.
These areas are:
Public Engagement and Education
Global Hands Chapters
International Development
Global Hands Publishing
Within these four areas they see the possibility of provoking people’s consciousness supporting them to build their capacity to address issues that affect them.
Over the past few months both leaders at the Youth Centre and Global Hands have been working closely to see if they can come together for the good of the young people of the town and surrounding area.
As a result a partnership has been agreed and both organisations see that by working together they can create stronger links within the local community and move towards a better future for all concerned.
