The scheme was set up to deter thieves and prevent allotment crime. It will be run by PCSO Mike Hutchinson and Great Aycliffe Town Council and include all allotment sites. Middridge will also be involved. Each site is given a unique colour and items will be painted in this colour.
If items are recovered by police, they can identify which site the item belongs so it can be returned to the owner. Higher value items will be forensically marked with Smartwater which will also be registered to each individual site.
