On Friday 11th October the Helping Hands team had a visit from Phil Wilson MP. We had the opportunity to explain about the work we have been doing in the community and also some of the challenges we face as we aim to support in excess of 1500 people during the next 12 months.
Phil said: “The provision of much needed essential household goods to those in need is becoming more apparent as the austerity measures facing the country continue to bite. The work undertaken by the Helping Hands team based in Newton Aycliffe is doing its best to match the demand, but they need more help. The volunteers I met today show great community spirit and are an asset to Newton Aycliffe.”
Alwyn White, Project Manager, said “it was a good meeting. Phil clearly understands the needs within our community and said he will be thinking about how he can help”
