Operation Spruce Up is a fourteen-month environmental programme which will ‘spruce up’ specific areas in selected towns and villages across County Durham.
The programme began in November 2016 and is currently on its 12th area (Langley Moor), with the Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership – GAMP being the 13th area to be covered.
More information on the scheme can be found at www.durham.gov.uk/spruceup
Work will take place over a week, beginning on Monday 20th November and will focus on Bluebell Woods and also the underpasses and surrounding areas around Newton Aycliffe. In addition the programme will work with local community groups and schools on community activities to promote the work taking place and the importance of looking after the local environment.
People are welcome to suggest work that might be done. However, work can only be carried out on County Council land and also the idea of the “Spruce Up” is to carry out work on a concentrated area.
However, it is worthwhile submitting ideas even if they are not adopted. Spruce Up is not instead of usual maintenance, it is in addition to, so even if work is not carried out during the Spruce Up week it will still be looked at.
