For the first time, The Old Vicarage Estate Gardens will be open to the public, courtesy of the Maddison Family. This will take place on Sunday 9th June from 1.00 – 5.00pm. Entrance fee £4 (adults) £1 (children).
All proceeds to the Bishop Auckland Fundraising Group of Marie Curie.
This four-acre site, which has been redeveloped over the past 20 years, has many bespoke feature gardens, including herbaceous, wild flower, fruit orchard, vegetable, rose and rockery, together with wildlife ponds, a formal garden and extensive lawns.
The highlight of the visit, however, is the latest addition – the Italian Garden which one enters via a specially designed Moon Gate.
The Grade II listed house and gardens have connections to both Royalty and Lord Armstrong of Cragside and a special exhibition area will give further details of the history of The Old Vicarage and its gardens.
Refreshments will be available to purchase and all donations and takings on the day will go towards providing ‘end of life care’ by Marie Curie Nurses in the Bishop Auckland area.
