It really could be anyone’s season this year with Salford, Darlington, Spennymoor and Northwich all more than capable of achieving top spot. Fortunately our midweek win over Northwich has restored some confidence if not in the players then certainly in the fans. The win came on the back of last Saturday’s game against Warrington being called off due to a waterlogged pitch. This has now been re-arranged for Tuesday 21 April. We currently sit second, three points behind Salford with a game in hand. This Saturday we have Droylsden at home (Heritage Park 3pm kick off), whilst Salford have a tough fixture at home to Spennymoor.
Two days later we play Scarborough away in their temporary home of Bridlington. We should get a fairly decent sized away following for this game. The last time we played Scarborough in the league we won 3-0. To be honest at this stage of the season I’d take a scrappy 1-0! These games in a few days could be crucial to where the league title ends up going.
Off the pitch things are moving along well with the ground development at Blackwell Meadows. Northumbrian Water have withdrawn their objections to the building work because of a pipe and the plans have now been amended. The planning committee meet on April 8 at Darlington town hall to discuss the proposals.
I’m currently in the process of setting up an Aycliffe branch of Darlington Supporters Club. I’ve already had quite a bit of interest around this, which is great! The plan is to meet once a month or so to discuss anything Darlo related, plan away trips and any ideas to further the interests of the Club. Those interested in joining the supporters group can email me at alanmbennett@hotmail.com. Keep the faith.
