Muriel Gordon, longstanding Manager of the Newton Aycliffe MIND Drop in Centre sadly passed away on Sunday 21st June 2015, after a short illness. Over the years she has helped countless people cope with the difficulties they face in everyday life.
Last month Muriel, a Councillor on Shildon Town Council, was appointed Deputy Mayor of Shildon. She had been looking forward to the opportunity of serving her community in the office of Mayor in 2016. She will be a loss to the communities of both Shildon and Newton Aycliffe.
Prior to commencing work for MIND, Muriel had worked for Prudential Insurance Services and also owned and ran the renowned Muriel’s Chippy in Foundry Street, Shildon, with her husband Dave.
Muriel played a full part in the local community and sang in the choir at St John’s Church in Shildon. She had three sons, Leigh, Alistair and Luke and she doted on her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kind messages of condolence.
On behalf of the townspeople Newton News extends sincere sympathy to the family remembering the fantastic contribution Muriel made to our community.
