As part of the Early Years Curriculum at the Eden Nursery at Aycliffe Village School they look at other cultures so for Comic Relief material’s from a Red Nose Day pack was used to help a little girl called, Ronika.
She lives in Kenya and her house is the same size as a shed with no kitchen or bathroom. She shares a bed with her whole family.
The children designed a house thinking about the nice things they had and those Ronika didn’t have. They did a brilliant job designing houses giving her windows, a bed, a kitchen, a bath etc.
Alongside the story of Ronika we held a sponsored event with an 80’s theme, with the children and staff dressing in bright and brilliant clothing. We had a chocolate raffle with prizes donated by parents. After the event we printed pictures of the things Ronika asked for and the children were thrilled that they had done such a brilliant job in raising £304.
Now Ronika has her own bed and the things she asked for which had a huge impact on the children’s learning and confidence in helping others.
