Dear Sir,
I feel that I must make a comment on the election result. I have been a member of the Labour Party for some 53 years first joining in a North London Constituency which was held by a Conservative in 1966, I have been campaigning for Labour ever since.
This election was no different, I campaigned for Phil Wilson to become the Labour MP for Sedgefield, however I will not see, in my lifetime, another Labour Government.
Over the last five weeks of campaigning, I knocked on doors and kept getting the same message not just in Newton Aycliffe but in places like Wingate, Thornley and Heighington.
The message was “Not while you have Jeremy Corbyn as leader”. It appears that the Corbyn supporters are completely out of touch with most Labour voters as they seem to regard Jeremy Corbyn as the “Messiah”. The voting public recognised him for what he is, an extremist who alienated his core vote by sitting on the fence over Brexit. Some members seem to want a Marxist Labour Party with Momentum being the mechanism to get rid of Moderate Labour MP’s, since last Thursday’s result I have felt sorry for the core Labour voters having him inflicted as Labour Leader. Anyone who visits clubs will realise that Jeremy Corbyn is toxic, having seen the Tory landslide let’s see how they will tackle homelessness, poverty, including pensioner poverty, housing and private landlords.
Whilst some will say that Brexit was the main factor, it needs to be said that it was not the main factor that losing out to the Tories in places like Blyth Valley, which set the scene for Labours demise. The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, should take full responsibility and resign with immediate effect. When a new leader of the Labour Party is sought and elected he/she needs a good level of degree and not someone who neither understands the issues at stake. You can’t win elections on principles, what is at stake is that it will take 20 years to get back to where we are now, even then there will be no guarantee of any success.
