Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training continued their blistering form with a ninth consecutive league win, this time defeating Norton at home by 6 wickets to stay at the top of the NYSD third division table. The visitors were asked to bat first and found acting captain Luke Telford in unplayable form taking 7 for 33 as Norton were bowled out for just 141 after 41.3 overs. In reply Adam Gittins was in superb form smashing 71 runs, including 12 boundaries and a six and with good support from Sean Morgan, who remained unbeaten on 33, Aycliffe hurried to an excellent win in the 31st over.
Newton Aycliffe’s participation in the league 15/15 cup came to an end when the first team lost away to a very strong Middlesbrough team by 17 runs. Chasing 124 for victory, Aycliffe fell just short at 106 for 8 from their 15 overs despite some excellent batting from Michael Howe (28 runs), Sean Morgan (25 runs) and Luke Telford with 20 runs.
Aycliffe’s second team came agonisingly close to upsetting title hopefuls Saltburn as they lost by just one wicket in the NYSD Sunday 2nd division. Asked to bat first Aycliffe were thankful for a 2nd team club record 9th wicket partnership of 46 between Tom Wickins (35 runs) and Andrew Jennings (14 runs) and also good innings of 26 from captain Adam Gittins and 18 from Matt Capper, which helped their team to reach 122 all out after 36.3 overs. In reply Aycliffe’s Danny Weldon bowled a hostile opening 7 over spell taking three quick wickets to put Saltburn on the back foot. Andrew Jennings, Pat Howe and Ross Dixon each took two wickets to continue the good work for Aycliffe, however the visitors edged to victory in a tense finale to win a fantastic game of cricket by the closest possible margin in the 32nd over.
The club’s under 13’s team lost by just 9 runs away at Sedgefield in the NYACC league despite good performances from Aycliffe’s Daniel Bowmer, who top scored with 18 and also two wickets each from both Adam Lamb and Usman Abbassi.
The under 11’s team lost away to league leaders Stockton by 32 runs despite some good bowling performances from both captain Nathan Parry and Ali Abbassi, who each took a couple of wickets.
