An Aycliffe College Lecturer and former Commando has published a book ahead of the First World War Centenary Year.
Steve Corner hopes his novel will appeal to historians and romantacists alike. It begins during the Battle of the Somme, in 1916 and the events that occurred, develop into a fictional tale that bring the reader to the present day.

Steve is 43 and has lived in Newton Aycliffe since 1977 after here from Chester. He attended The Avenue Comprehensive and gained an Engineering Degree from Newcastle University Steve is married to Sarah an NHS Practice Manager.
he undertook Royal Marine Commando training to earn his Green Beret in 1995. Newton News reported his charity run in 1998 that I organised with the Royal Marines for St Thersa’s Hospice. The run from Newcastle to Darlington (36 miles in 4.5 hours) raised £1000.
Steve currently serves with 102 Battalion REME (Army Reserve) in Aycliffe.
He is an Engineering Lecturer at Darlington College and developed the inert device simulator regularly used by 102 Battalion. The College is working on smaller devices using the latest technology to sell to the Army.
His novel started as a short story entered in the Sid Chaplin competion and was extended and published.
