Rutherford 5 v U14 Eagles 2
A game of two halves with The Eagles playing really well first half, going 0-2 up. An even match against a good physical team. During the second half, however, Rutherford played us off the park and won the game comfortably. A difficult game for the boys but no one lacked effort. Goals from Olly and Hamza. MOTM: Kian.
U14 Girls (Sunday) 1 v Winlaton Hurricanes 1
This was the first match of the second Sunday league of the season. Winlaton won the first league, so this was a good result in a match that’s always tough. In our 5th game against them since September we went 1-0 up with a brilliant goal involving Charli and Evie before Evie released Romilly who produced a sublime finish. Our defence played really well and Isobel and Tilly were the star players.
Darlington FC 3 v U13 Angels 3
First against second in the league and an identical result as the first clash on the first game of the season, a 3-3 draw. Darlington started the best and took the lead, but Aycliffe came on strongly and went 3-1 up before Darlington pulled a draw out in the last 10 minutes. A great game. Two goals from Rom and one from Isobel. Stars: Charli and Isobel.
U13 Boys 2 v North Ormesby 1
We were up against Cup semi-finalists, so we expected a tough day. This game had it all; posts and crossbars struck, amazing saves and tempers flared. Posi scored prior to HT. James scored a deflected free kick in the second half. Despite conceding late on, the lads dug deep to see out a well-deserved & impressive win. Mega performances from everyone on the pitch and so all the lads were awarded MOTM.
U13 Girls 3 v Bishop Auckland 2
Another exciting match in a local derby, we raced into a three goal lead inside 20 minutes with two goals from Charlotte and one from Payton. HT 3-0. Bishop scored two in the second half and we were under the cosh but we showed great togetherness and resilience to secure the 3 points. FT 3-2. POTM: Pippa.
U12 Girls 5 v Middlesbrough 3
We looked the stronger team from the start and managed to keep Middlesbrough pressed in their own half for the majority of the game. We got caught out a few times by Middlesbrough’s fast forwards but did a better job finishing off our chances throughout the game and were rewarded with a well deserved win. MOTM: Tia.
U12 Eagles 2 v TIBS 4
Following last week’s brilliant performance and win over top of the league, we thought the boys would continue their run of good football, however, it wasn’t our day today. TIBS played some really good stuff and their defence was strong, breaking down any attack from Aycliffe. The boys battled until the final whistle but TIBS won comfortably. Goals were an OG and a fab header from Carter. MOM: Riley.
Bishop Auckland 3 v U11 Wildcats 1
A tough game today against strong opponents. We were 1-0 up at half time after Lucy had played a ball over their defence for Phoebe to race through and score at the second attempt. A tight second half saw us have a few close chances but Bishop scored three without reply. FT 1-3. The girls continue to play to the last second in every game, showing great character and attitude.
Eaglescliffe Elementis v U8 Eagles
The boys played against a very good Eaglescliffe Yellows and a heavy pitch made for a tiring game. The boys didn’t quite carry the same energy today as they have in previous games and our front press was less effective against some good passing by the opposition. The scoreline did not reflect the nature of the game.
U7 Eagles v South Park Rangers
Great performance from the team to win a close game in the league. Five goals from Joshua and 1 from Zac. Great performances from everyone on the pitch with Oliver making some good saves in goal.
Under 9 Wildcats – Friendly Spring Cup
Newton Aycliffe Youth Wildcats, Bishop Auckland Girls & Darlington Locomotives played in the inaugural Spring Cup (U9), hosted by Youthy. Three amazing teams battled it out, in some amazingly tight games. All of the girls received well-deserved medals and it was Darlington Locomotives who prevailed, to lift the Cup. Well done to all the girls, from all three teams.
