Not much action across the weekend as again the weather took it’s toll. Nevertheless there was some great action and excitement in league and cup duty.
League Cup Semi Final day for the Under 14 Girls’ who welcomed Washington Wildcats’ to a wet and windy Oak Leaf. Sadly, three first half goals put paid to any hopes. The visitors’ used the wings to great effect and assisted by the wind, found the net with a speculative cross, which looped over everyone into the far corner. This gave the Wildcats’ confidence to go forward at will and after winning a free kick well outside the box, the ball flew passed everyone again and nestled in the far corner for 0-2. Not many chances came our way at all of note in the first half – any breakthrough’s were mopped up by a determined defence. In all honesty, the first two goals stunned our Girls’ and this was compounded as they added a third on the stroke of half-time.
We needed to score early on in the second half to give us any hope. It wasn’t to be as we found a resolute goalkeeper in great form. Whilst we very much were the better team in the second half – creating chance after chance, two outstanding stops form their Number 1 proved the difference.
Under 12 Falcons triumphed again on their travels away to Great Ayton. The Falcons defence wasn’t giving much away and breaking well with the likes of Dylan, Declan Kane breaking with pace from Midfield. The Falcons took the lead just before half time with a good delivery from Declan Scott turned in by Dylan Redpath. The second half saw the Falcons with the wind and slope advantage dominate much more. Kieran Gillham was causing lots of problems with his wing play on the left, winning a couple of free kicks right in the edge of the box. From the 2nd one of these, Kane Hopwood curled a beauty into the top corner. 2-0. The third goal was scored by Dylan Redpath to put the game to bed after some nice football in midfield 3-0. MOTM for his two goals and carrying the ball well up the pitch first half when our backs were to the walls, Dylan Redpath.
The Under 11 Girls’ v Durham Cestria was all Aycliffe as the pace and movement up front and the assured tackling at the back left Faith a spectator, the goals created today were superb for such young players, and assured finishing give the girls an 8-0 win. Kate 4, Hattie 2, Alex, and an excellent surging run and goal from Olivia.
Next up v Hartlepool Pools Youth, could the girls get any better, you bet they could! all the first half was played in the opposition half and within 5 mins it was 4 for Hattie closely followed by Kate and 2 for Alex HT 7-0. Changes were being made as often as the action would allow, then a corner from Hartlepool beat everyone to find the back of the net, this spurred the girls again, a further 4 goals from Hattie, Kate completing her hat-trick and the game was over but for Hartlepool to have the final word FT 13-2. An outstanding attacking performance but I must mention the girls who still have to concentrate despite being spectators for long spells of the game – Faith, Neve, Emily, Macy, Grace, Olivia.
Under 10 Girls’ v St Cuthbert’s – an excellent performance from the girls as they controlled the game. Midway through the first half, a strong run from Brooke finishing with a shot that the keeper couldn’t hold HT 1-0. The defence looked confident and as Niamh stopped a rare attack she slid the ball to Brooke who calmly finished for her second and the points were secured FT 2-0. Next up v Boldon. A team sitting second in the division was always going to be tough. We were caught out ball watching with players alone in the box giving Alysha no chance. 0-4 at half time.
We needed to regroup and learn from the mistakes, Georgie, Neve, and Phoebe started the second half a lot more determined, the midfield of Ebony and Keira were making opportunities for Brooke and Heidi, eventually we got our reward as Brooke slotted into the corner, FT 1-4, great second half performance from everyone.
The Under 7 Eagles were home to Farringdon Detached in the Russell Foster League this morning. The weather was windy and bitterly cold but our boys and girls turned on their football brains and played some great football giving us a 4-3 win. Well done to all involved but a special mention to Will and his 4 goals.
