Their latest project is working in conjunction with Durham Tigers Rugby League Club, they are together delivering to Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding area a taster session of rugby league including touch rugby.
This is the first of many projects incorporating the younger people of our community and those over 19 years of age since the name change from Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre to Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre allowed this to happen.
The event will take place on Saturday 22nd February at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre the first session will be for 8-11 year olds between 10am to 12 noon and the afternoon session will be for 12-16 year olds between 2 pm to 4 pm. Both sessions are suitable for boys and girls. The outcome of the event will be FUN FUN FUN for children and all for £2 per child. If there are any subsequent children of any age they will each cost £1.50.
If you enjoy the taster session Durham Tigers will offer you a free full training session at one of their training sessions at Sunnydale Leisure Centre.
Like many disciplined sports rugby league coaching leads to healthy bodies, healthy minds, discipline, self respect, self confidence and respect for others and of cause it’s fun too.
Durham Tigers have been established since 2003 and regularly meet at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon.
They have been working behind the scenes with the centre for some time to bring this project to fruition for the local community. All coaches are qualified and comply with Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) requirements. This ensures they are able to work with young people.
