It has been another busy week for Aycliffe Running Club. This started on Wednesday 26th June with the 5th race in the Darlington Trail series and the tough and hilly West Park 5k. John Surtees (18:34) finished first with Tracey Surtees (21:10) first female and Lucy Postle (23:55) third female. Also representing the club were Sam Keenan (20:23), Jimmy Agnew (22:09), Richard Holland (22:35), Daniel Tatham (23:27), Bernadette Cooper (24:11), Andrew Tweddle (25:58), Joe Dickinson (26:11), Sarah Gill (26:26), David Stothard (27:02), Jean-Pierre Hupin (30:43), Sue Podmore (30:59), Kirsty Cameron (31:29), Kelly Dickinson (31:33), Melanie Varley (31:55), Sam Harding (32:21), Sandrine Hewitt (32:33), Peter Varley (34:12), Em Flynn (35:32) and Ian Stothard (44:37).
Also a special mention for two club members who took part in the Total Warrior event at Leeds on Sunday 23rd June. Sarah Gill and Carley Cooper both had to navigate a number of different obstacles which included running through fire, one called ‘The Plunge’ where you get submerged under water, lots of climbing and slides as well as plenty of mud and water. Both members did this whilst raising funds for an amazing charity, Autism Parents Together. Sarah and Carley both did amazing, finishing together in a time of 1:58:37.
On Saturday 15th June, 34 members started their weekend with a parkrun. The club travelled to Albert Park for the next parkrun tourism event with John Surtees (17:20) finishing second. Also taking part were Angela Sutheran (22:43), Sarah Gill (24:27), John Burnside (24:28), David Stothard (26:26), Sue Podmore (28:19), Rob Nicholson (28:43) and Sam Harding (30:11). Lou Mann (32:47) completed the course at Troon for the first time. At Hackworth, Bernadette Cooper (23:14) finished as first female. At Rising Sun, Steve Williams (27:41), Tracey Pickering (36:44), Cliff Pickering (47:45) and Viv Williams (52:46 and tail walker) completed the course for the first time. Paul Dalton (20:51) and Jayne Rudd (30:59) completed the course at Peel for the first time. At Fulwell Quarry, Carley Cooper (29:13), Jean-Pierre Hupin (29:17) and Em Flynn completed the course for the first time.
On Saturday 22nd June, 37 members started their weekend with a parkrun. Dave Stothard (24:30) and Ian Stothard (40:12) both completed the course at Harrogate for the first time. At Sedgefield, Thomas Heyward (25:05) achieved one his aims for the year, setting a new personal best. Lou Mann (32:23) completed the event at Redcar for the first time. At Hackworth, Anthony Dickinson (21:14) finished second with Bernadette Cooper (23:49) second female. Peter Varley (32:52) also set a new PB for the course. At Keswick, Sue Podmore (28:04) completed the course for the first time. Judith Porter (31:59) completed the course at Jersey for the first time. At Hamsterley Forest, Andrew Tweddle (25:59) completed the course for the first time. At Wynyard Woodland, Em Flynn (31:47) set a new course PB. Over at Thorp Perrow, Steve Williams (27:45) and Viv Williams (57:09 and tail walker) completed the course for the first time.
On Saturday 29th June, 37 members started their weekend with a parkrun. At Albert, Lou Mann (32:12) completed the course for the first time. At Flatts Lane, Floyd Jones (23:24), Salv McDonnell (29:10) and Cath McDonnell (32:34) completed the course for the first time. At Keswick, Carley Cooper (28:05) and Jean-Pierre Hupin (29:06) completed the course for the first time with Em Flynn (31:36) setting a new course PB. Kathleen Tonge (29:59) and Richard Tonge (30:47) both completed the course at Victoria Dock for the first time. At Herrington Country Park, Sandrine Hewitt (31:30) and Lind McNamee (33:34) both completed the course for the first time. Paul Dalton (21:21) and Jayne Rudd (33:16) both completed the Zegerplas parkrun in the Netherlands for the first time.
