Over fifty children from Newton Aycliffe started the New Year with a flurry of football action as they successfully completed the three day Martin Gray Football Academy course last week.

The course, held at Greenfield School, gave thosae attending the opportunity to learn new footballing skills in a fun and friendly environment. Martin, the current Manager of Darlington 1883, explains, “With schools going back later this year the course has been more popular than ever, with both boys and girls across a wide range of ages attending. Our programme is fun yet progressive and the kids improve not only their individual skills, but their ability to work as part of a team too. Their boundless enthusiasm and willingness to have a go was, as always, commendable.”

On the final day of the course children had the rare opportunity to meet and greet Darlington FC player Darren Richardson and club mascot Mr Q.

Mr Selby whose son attended the course said, “Sam had a fantastic time on the course, making lots of new friends and playing football too – happy days!”

With drop-in Academy sessions held at Greenfield School every Tuesday, 5.30pm – 7pm and Friday, 6.30pm – 8pm, it’s never too late to get involved and new faces are always welcomed.
