Durham County Council are set to develop a new walking and cycling route along a 19-kilometre stretch of the former Stockton & Darlington Railway. We are investing more than £7 million in the creation of the routes, from its allocation from the government’s Levelling Up Fund. The new routes will be in place ahead of celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington line in 2025.
The route will involve the creation of a walking and cycling path between Witton Park and the council’s boundary with Darlington Borough, south of Newton Aycliffe, and will include Stockton and Darlington Railway-branded waymarker signs and interpretation boards.
Works to commence from the summer over this financial year and we will be holding Information Sharing Drop in Sessions at three locations along the route:
Tuesday 6th June, 4-7pm:
Toft Hill and Etherley Community Centre
Wednesday 7th June, 4-7pm:
Shildon Institute
Thursday 8th June, 4-7pm:
West Auckland Memorial Community Centre.
