The meeting commenced at 6.30pm in Aycliffe Village Hall. Present were Cllr Ken Robson, Vice Chairman of GARA who chaired the meeting and Cllr Arun Chandran, Secretary of GARA, also in attendance (despite England playing in the World Cup that evening), were 20 residents plus County Councillors Jim Atkinson and Sarah Iveson, and Aycliffe Village Town Cllr Bill Blenkinsopp, Heather Brewster of Neville Residents Assoc., and Phil Clark of Horndale Residents Assoc.
Ken Robson chaired the informal meeting and explained that Cllr Bill Blenkinsopp had asked GARA to organise a meeting to see if it was feasible to set up a Residents Association in Aycliffe Village.
Ken gave a detailed summary of what was involved in setting up and running a Residents Association, aided by Heather Brewster and Phil Clark.
A general open discussion ensued on whether to proceed to the next stage and this was agreed by 17 residents with 3 against.
So another public meeting will be held on Tuesday 31st July at 6.30pm. All residents of Aycliffe Village are invited to attend and residents are asked to consider whether they would like to serve as Officers: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer or a Committee member.
If there are enough people coming forward to fill these posts then we will proceed at that meeting to formally elect the Committee and Officers and set about adopting a constitution for the Association.
Any resident interested in knowing more can contact Ken Robson on 321471 or Arun Chandran on 313224.
