Tesco’s new manager is Darren Pickering who has worked for Tesco since 2008 and been in the retail industry since 1987 first for the Co-op then Tesco.
Darren, who is engaged to Mandy, and plans to get married in September, has two boys aged 14 and 9 years old and currently lives in Killingworth.
Mr Pickering will be carrying on the Tesco ethos of community involvement, building relationships with local businesses, aiding and helping families where possible.
The Newton Aycliffe Tesco store currently employs 290 local residents and is classed as one of the best in the group.
The store regularly hold fund raising events and allow local organisations to fund raise in store, either by shaking a tin, food collection, bag packs etc.
Tesco Dance Beats is a new nationwide initiative inviting dance schools to perform in store in a dance marathon from 18th to 20th July.
Newton Aycliffe Tesco store work closely with local food banks based at Shildon Alive, Neighbourhood Watch, Red Supported Living, County Durham Tees Valley Rescue Mission, RocSolid and have so far this year given over 54,000 meals to help those in need.
