Welcome to the world of Horndale Infant & Nursery School. My name is Craig Brown, the new Head Teacher at Horndale following the retirement of Mrs Courtney earlier in 2015.
I started my role on the 1st September and I have absolutely loved getting to know the staff, parents and more importantly the children. It is an exciting time at Horndale as we are working harder than ever to help your child to continue their learning journey.
This is the first time I have worked in County Durham and the support from the council and local community has been second to none. I previously worked for schools in North Yorkshire where I started my teaching career. My first school, Carnagill, allowed me the chance to progress to become a senior leader. I then moved on to become Assistant Head Teacher of Colburn Primary.
When I am not at school I love tinkering around with cars, gardening and being outside! I still enjoy playing sport when I get the chance such as football, cricket and inline hockey! My favourite thing to do when I am not busy is to take my family out for a walk by a river or in a forest. Geocaching is great fun, I highly recommend it! We love to explore, take photographs and come home muddy! My wife, Sarah, is also a teacher and we have two children, Noah, age 5 and Rose aged 18 months.
My vision for the school is to continue to build on all that has been achieved so far with a detailed strategic plan and to ensure Horndale is a place of excellence where all pupils are able to reach their full potential. I am passionate about involving the local community and ensuring parents are able to celebrate their child’s success’ through our new website, local press and our new Facebook page.
We have a bright future as a school and would welcome your thoughts and views as a ‘Caring, Sharing, Partnership.’
