People in a County Durham community are being encouraged to clean up after their dog as part of a mini Green Dog Walkers Campaign. Durham County Council’s Civic Pride Team is running the campaign, which aims to promote responsible dog ownership in the Bournmoor area.
As well as educating people about their duty to clean up after their dogs, the three-week initiative includes extra patrols in dog fouling hotspots and an increase of temporary signs to deter people from allowing their dog to foul.
Bournmoor Primary School children will be encouraged to go green by taking part in education sessions about responsible dog ownership and the importance of scooping up after their pet. Local councillors, neighbourhood wardens and local Police neighbourhood teams will also be taking part in the mini Green Dog Walkers campaign.
Pauline Walker, Durham County Council senior civic pride officer, said: “Dog fouling is an issue which affects many communities across the county. The mini Green Dog Walkers Campaign is an educational and fun way for residents, children and young people to get involved in combatting this issue.”
