Greenfield College, Sedgefield SSP and Local Primary Schools, work in partnership to provide regular football fixtures for local Primary School children throughout the year. On 18th September the autumn term Sedgefield Schools Sports Partnership Year 5/6 football league at Greenfield was launched with a set of brand new goals!
Last year the young footballers from our local primaries asked if they could have larger goals for their matches. Despite having a range of different sized goals on offer to support the range of football activity at Greenfield (including 5-a-side, and 9 & 11-a-side goals) another set of the 7-a-side goals for this league has expanded and supported this offer.
The Primary school pupils involved in this fantastic league were delighted when local Councillors offered their support and funded a 2nd set of goals for their tournaments. Thank you to the following who made a very kind contribution from their Member Initiative fund: Councillors Mike Dixon, Joan Gray, John Clare, Kate Hopper, Eddy Adam, Sarah Iveson and Jed Hillary, to support local children, football development and healthy active lifestyles.
A big congratulations is in order for all of the Newton Aycliffe Schools who made an excellent start to the league this past week, using their fantastic new goals, and are standing in 1st, 2nd & 3rd position after the 1st week; with Stephenson Way A in 1st place, Woodham Burn 2nd & Byerley Park 3rd. Over the coming weeks five other Newton Aycliffe teams will start their league matches, to be played on Greenfield Sports’ site with the brand new goals, as well as events and activities for the Martin Gray Football Academy and lots more activities for young people of all ages – good luck to all!
