Grassroots sport in Durham received a significant boost today following the news that Newton Aycliffe Junior Football Club (NAJFC) have received a grant of £978 from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.

The funding will allow Newton Aycliffe Junior Football Club to purchase two sets of mini soccer goals and one full size set of goalposts to ensure all teams from NAJFC can play and progress through the different levels of the game. The purchase of this new equipment will also help to assist in the development and progression of the club within the community.

Stuart Howe, Chairman of NAJFC, said: “Receiving this grant from the Football Foundation will allow NAJFC to develop the football skills of the young children in our local Community.  Without the help of this grant from the Football Foundation, NAJFC would have found it very hard to purchase new, safe and secure equipment for the club.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I commend Newton Aycliffe Junior Football Club and the Durham County FA for working tirelessly to secure this funding and I look forward to seeing the end result in the near future.

“The Football Foundation is dedicated, with funding provided from the Premier League, The FA and government, to raising the standard of grassroots community sports facilities and to getting more people actively playing the national sport.”
