Aycliffe and District Bus Preservation Society hosted the 2014 Spring conference of the National Association of Road Transport Museums, a 95 strong national organisation founded 30 years ago to protect, enhance and to promote the world of vintage road passenger transport.
Members came from as far as Aberdeen and Dorset for their meeting which was held in the Holiday Inn, formerly the Aston Hotel, Aycliffe. Forty six representatives attended the meeting which included an illustrated talk by Paul Jarman of Beamish who spoke about the upsurge in interest in Beamish over the last 2 years.
During the weekend visits included viewing of the Society’s workshops on the Business Park to see the current restoration project and to Locomotion at Shildon for a conducted tour of the NRM which included the opportunity to get onto the footplate of the two remaining A4 Pacifics before their departure back to North America.
