The past few weeks have included two special occasions in the Careers Education calendar: National Careers week and National Apprencticeship week. Woodham Academy has marked the event with a series of workshops to highlight the importance of impartial and independent Information, Advice and Guidance to support students in moving onto their post 16 pathway of choice.
Year 11 students have been working closely with Peter Clough, Human Resources Manager at Greggs in Gateshead on securing an apprenticeship in a variety of sectors. They have looked at designing professional CVs and covering letters and also had a focus psychometric testing. Jordan Howe, a budding Year 11 apprentice, said “The sessions gave me an insight into how to apply for a job and how I can make the best impression possible. The workshops have really helped me in preparing for my next steps.”
The government’s recent announcement that the apprenticeship route will become equal to a university qualification comes at a key time for Woodham Academy as it continues to develop links with local employers to secure the future of students within Newton Aycliffe.
