On Sunday 7th October 2012, NAJFC Under 11’s travelled across town to play local rivals Newton Aycliffe Youth at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex in a local Cup Derby. Both teams arrived bright and early to warm up and prepare for this local match and each team had a very strong following.
NAJFC were looking for their first win of the Season. The team started the match on the front foot attacking at every opportunity. Newton Aycliffe Youth were not over-rode and gave NAJFC as good as they got. NAJFC got the breakthrough within the first 10 minutes of the game with Harri Lynch opening the scoring with a shot over the top of the keeper. Newton Aycliffe Youth came straight back at NAJFC attacking down the wings but NAJFC’s defence held strong. Taking a one nil lead into the half time break. At half time Adam Cayless (Manager) and his coaching team gave the team a determined and inspiring team talk, to continue playing football in the same manner they had played in the first half and they would get their just rewards.
The second half saw both teams have some very hard tackling with some very good chances. NAJFC doubled their lead with a strike from Callum Marshall taking the score line to two nil.
NAJFC took their foot off the gas for a while which enabled Newton Aycliffe Youth to beat the off side trap and score a goal. This spurred NAJFC on to try and get another goal. NAJFC made two substitutions to tighten up the mid field to see the match out. Before the final whistle both teams had opportunities to score but to no avail. Final score line Newton Aycliffe Youth 1, NAJFC 2.
Well done to both teams, what a fantastic local Derby.
Manager Adam Cayless was very proud of the team’s attitude and commitment throughout this game and would like to thank everyone who came along and supported the team, a very well deserved win.
