Bishop Auckland Music Society’s concerts all take place in the delightful 13th century parish church of St. Andrew’s,
South Church, at 7.30pm, utilising the excellent Steinway Model B piano as appropriate – one of the finest pianos in the region and one which continues to delight both players and listeners alike.
The season begins on Friday, 6th April with one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of the younger generation – as illustrated in her prominent presence at the 2015 BBC Proms – Alina Ibragimova.
Her long-standing duo partnership with pianist Cedric Tiberghien will focus on works by Brahms.
This will be followed, on Friday 18th May, by an eclectic musical evening as presented by Jess Gillam – the first saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of the BBC Young Musician (‘A true inspiration, she frankly rocks.’ Huffington Post 2017) – accompanied by pianist Jonathan Fisher.
Summer is heralded by Beethoven and Prokofiev amongst others, on Friday, 15th June by Latvian cellist, Kristiana Ignatjeva and pianist Sven Heinoja.
Kristiana, who is studying at the Royal College of Music in London and is a twice winner of the First Prize and Unaccompanied Bach Prize at the Violoncello Competition, will be playing an Italian cello by Matteo Goffriller on loan from her alma mater.
Luckily for music lovers, on Friday, 13th July flautist, Fiona Mancey-Jones, together with pianist, Marija Scott, will perform at a concert featuring Debussy and Poulenc.
The season culminates, on Friday, 7th September when Clare Hammond, acclaimed as ‘a pianist of amazing power and panache’ (The Telegraph), demonstrates mastery of her instrument in a brilliantly imaginative concert programme – not to be missed!
Season tickets, including all five concerts for roughly the price of four: £55, are available in advance.
Single concert tickets price £13.50, £15 on the door, can be purchased from Brotherton’s Music (opposite Morrison’s car park), or by contacting Brian Varley on (01388) 606075.
