Partners at GACAP’s regular meeting enjoyed a time of networking with a cup of coffee before their meeting. County Councillor Paul Howell attended the meeting to ascertain if he could assist Great Aycliffe Community Aid Partnership.

Work on GACAP website is ongoing meanwhile anyone wanting to find out more about can log on to www.gacap.org.uk – this will help outline who and what GACAP is and what it stands for.

GACAP Chairman and Secretary continue visiting partners either at events they are holding like CDFHS’s recent Networking Day or joining with LIVIN and PCP in litter picking and tree planting.

The GACAP Discretionary Fund application form is currently being simplified to assist partners claim small amounts of funding or as small amounts of matched funding. An amended form will be forwarded with the minutes.

The Secretary advertised the MRI funding event being run by Rotary at the Big Club on 23rd March. Tickets are £7.50 including a hot pork roll and roast potatoes. Amongst the evening’s entertainment will be Shanaya from Newton Aycliffe who was recently a contestant is the X Factor.

Simon Day from CDTVRM (County Durham Tees Valley Rescue Mission), he showed a harrowing video of a young girl who, excitingly was looking forward to a new life, as things unfolded she had fallen into the trap of human trafficking, she had been forced into prostitution, being attached well over a 100 times before being rescued.

Hope for Justice is at the core of the work done by CDTVRM who are one of many hubs across the world who exist to help raise the profile of Hope for Justice. CDTVRM are a hub, a spindle for Hope for Justice, The hubs are located world-wide whose aim is to raise funds to support the work done by the charity. ROC Solid confirmed they had received clients from Hope for Justice.

Other items advertised were the date of the AGM which had provisionally been agreed as 20th April. Time and venue to be confirmed. The guest speaker for the AGM is our MP Phil Wilson.

Val Fawcett told partners about the forthcoming event at the Leisure Centre with the Petting Zoo being held by Acorn Residents Association, on 7th April. Several partners including Neville Jones from J & C Coaches gave reports about the Furniture Scheme he had just established. He has a Facebook Page and told all how his scheme had started when he was contacted to see if he could help someone who had absolutely nothing – facebook is popular in advertising for white goods and furniture.

The scheme has snowballed, but Neville wanted to ensure the work he was doing wasn’t treading on anyone’s toes. The meeting welcomed Neville as a GACAP partner saying the service he was offering would fit well into their jigsaw of welfare organisations.
