Not for the first time this season the weather was unkind to us with literally a handful of football to report. What action that took place was a good win for the Under 11 Eagles who managed a reversed fixture v Billingham Synthonia just to get a game. The boys made hard work of the 1st half by forgetting the basics. By hook and by crook they took a half time lead of 3-0 with Brennan Fitzpatrick bagging himself a hat trick. Not happy with the football, a half-time team talk was a remember of the basics, “pass & move”. Eventually after 15 minutes into the half the penny finally dropped and the football was awesome and with this, more goals came from some very good passages of play. Leo Umudi, Calum Whitfield and Alfie Backhouse all getting themselves a goal each. The lads ran out 6-0 winners and whilst doing so hopefully learned that team work is important. Well done all. Georgie Johnson gained the deserved MOTM award with a very steady performance. Huge thanks to Billingham for getting the game on and accepting our request to reverse the fixture.
The ‘silver lining’ was trophies and medals for the ever impressive Under 11 Girls, who travelled to Birtley during the holiday period and won the Lucozade Powerleague Soccerdome Tournament- in fine style. This was followed up by the Under 11 Eagles who triumphed in the Winter Tournament at the Alun Armstrong Centre. A great performance by the boys, who remained unbeaten – not bad considering they hadn’t had a game in over 7 weeks. Well done everyone, Happy New Year to all involved with Newton Aycliffe Youth FC and roll on some decent weather!
