Durham’s Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner has expressed astonishment at today’s contention by the Home Secretary that more resources for policing are not the answer to rising concerns about crime.
With the Government expected to launch a new Offensive Weapons Bill, Ron said “Additional powers are futile without sufficient officers to enforce them.
The Home Secretary’s approach suggests that we can arrest our way of the situation but we cannot. More officers will enable police to act pro-actively and thus prevent crime.”
Ron added “I am in constant dialogue with local people, and of course with police officers. Amber Rudd’s views do not reflect views of police leaders, local communities, or local Councillors of all parties”.
