Another week where the cold and wet weather was the winner. Last Saturday’s home game against Seaham Red Star was called off due to a frozen pitch. The officials and referee who arrived at Moore Lane early on Saturday morning were confronted by a scene more suitable to Dancing on Ice rather than a football pitch.
There were only two games played in the Ebac Northern League on Saturday. The games at Consett and Stockton Town were the only survivors. Not surprisingly these are the only two artificial pitches in the League.
With the FA looking to clubs to become ‘Community Hubs’ it would seem likely that more artificial pitches will find their way into the National League System in the future.
In the meantime clubs will be hoping that the weather takes a turn for the better. Aycliffe travel to West Auckland on Saturday with the final game of 2017 being at Team Northumbria in Newcastle on Saturday 30 December.
With the recent postponements Aycliffe are now awaiting notification from the Northern League of their three rearranged fixtures: away to Ashington & North Shields + home to Seaham Red Star.
Finally, the players, management & committee of Newton Aycliffe FC would like to thank our volunteers & fans for their support during 2017.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
