As a native of County Durham I have a passion for the County. I have been an Anglican Priest for over 40yrs including 30yrs as a Prison Chaplain which has provided a broad knowledge of people and community.
• Since coming to Aycliffe I have been active in the local Labour Party and the community.
• For the last five years as County Councillor for the West Ward I have supported and developed projects and community groups in the ward and across Aycliffe.
• I have sought to resolve individuals’ concerns, to develop partnership working especially through GAMP and build up the Durham County Credit Union in Aycliffe.
• I am in touch with the concerns and issues of people, by attendance at PACT and residents’ meetings, as governor at Woodham Burn and St. Francis’ schools, and through my church connections.
• I have taken a full and active part in all aspects of Council business, being specifically involved in planning, children’s safeguarding (adoption) and housing.
I would continue to promote local groups and projects, and develop partnership working especially through GAMP. In accordance with the wishes of the people, the priorities will be employment and young people.
On the County Council I would continue to promote tax transparency and ethical behaviour from firms employed by the Council and, in line with other councils, encourage the creation of a Fairness Commission to increase fairness and reduce inequality in the County.
Along with Joan Gray and John Clare, I respectfully request your vote as the Labour Party candidate for Aycliffe North.
