On Thursday 8th February at 7.30pm at Middridge Village Hall Alison Hodgson will give an illustrated description of how poor people have been treated from the Middle Ages through to the establishment of the Welfare State.
The talk entitled “Poverty Through the Ages in Britain” will include the Elizabethan Poor Law, the Irish potato famine, Highland clearances, 19th century philanthropists and the New Poor Law. Refreshments will be served and everyone is most welcome.
