The Wellbeing for Life team are preparing their costumes for a celebration of local superheroes at a family fun day hosted by Ron Hogg, Durham’s Police and Crime Commissioner. The event is free, with free parking, and will be held on Saturday 29 October 2016 at Locomotion, The National Railway Museum in Shildon from 10am – 3pm. It will showcase and raise awareness of all the good work that is happening in our local communities. Wellbeing for Life Health Trainers will be there, in Superhero attire, offering advice and support to improve people’s health and wellbeing. They’ll be delivering lots of fun activities and they have some giveaways including heathy cakes and a free prize draw to win a bike. Emergency services, including the police, fire service and other community safety organisations are attending, as well as the stars of the Police Interceptors, currently showing on Channel 5. Other activities and demonstrations include police vehicles, dog displays, Crime Scene Investigation activities, a children’s treasure hunt, Halloween and superhero fancy dress competition, police dogs Jet & Ben, competitions with prizes and much more. A Health Trainer said: “We are very excited about this event, as well as the fun element, people will have access to lots of important information that will keep them, and their families, safe and well. Wellbeing is about people’s happiness, being involved in the community in which they live, their health, safety and security and having opportunities available that will improve their quality of life. We can support you and your community to improve your wellbeing, signposting you to other local services where necessary. There will be lots to do and see, and I really encourage residents to come along and get involved.” There are hundreds of superheroes in our communities and, quite often, their work goes unnoticed. This event will celebrate them and give people the opportunity to see the vast range of work that they do, every day.
