McColl’s convenience store on Washington Crescent in Newton Aycliffe had donated £131 to GACAP towards their Community Welfare Fund where partners can draw down amounts to assist with helping people in need in our community. The store raised money through the Making a Difference locally charity, where customers purchase specific products in the store and a percentage of the money goes into a fund for the retailer and shopper to choose a local charity to support. GACAP, was the local cause chosen because of its integral part in the community. James Lancaster, McColl’s Retail Group Chief Executive Officer said, “It is wonderful that we have raised and donated money for such local and worthwhile cause.
McColl’s has always been known to be charitable and we try our very best to continually support the neighbourhoods in which we operate. This donation is another example of our helpful and giving ethos. We believe it is important to give something back to our customers who support us by raising money in purchasing specific products in store. McColl’s has a history of charitable giving”. Receiving the cheque for GACAP (right) is Ron Mitchie Chairman and Joan Mitchie Secretary of GACAP with Monica Little of McColl’s and Area Manager Michael Johnson. Ron Mitchie said “GACAP are thankful to McColl’s for their donation, and assured them the money would be spend wisely in assisting people in the community who for one reason or another have fallen on hard times”. McColl’s are expanding locally and will be taking over the Co-op Store at Neville Parade on 3rd July 2017.
They will have 24 hours to get the change over from Co-op to McColl’s ready in time for its opening on 4th July. They have also recently taken over a Co-op shop in Chilton. Monica said, “The charitable giving of McColl’s will mirror the giving that the Co-op invests in the local community. Please continue to, or start using McColl’s at Washington Crescent plus the stores in Chilton and Neville Parade so we are able to continue with Charitable giving”
